High-tech Alliance Paints Comprehensive Picture of Retail Traffic

Posted by Chris Giallanza on Sep 27, 2012 3:49:00 PM

-- Irisys and WirelessWERX provide door-to-door shopper analytics --

Two high-tech heavyweights have teamed up to equip retailers with an unprecedented view of shopper traffic. Irisys, Inc. – a global leader in thermal technology – recently finalized its Alliance Agreement with WirelessWERX – a U.S. leader in in-store behavioral analytics. The result is one of the most complete depictions of retail shopping behavior ever provided.

“The pairing of two highly advanced systems gives retailers something they’ve never had before – a continuous, door-to-door look at their customers’ behavior,” says Chris Precious, president, North America, and sales director, Worldwide Sensor Business for Irisys.

Irisys’ retail solutions are used primarily to count shoppers and manage front-end traffic at checkout through non-intrusive infrared technology that detects people based on body heat.

Irisys-powered people counters gather analytics at the entrance/exit doors and integrate with data collected at the checkout to predict the number of open registers needed in 15- and 30-minute intervals. The system begins uncovering opportunities for managers to streamline key front-end operations, such as staff scheduling and placement.

WirelessWERX technology takes over during the time customers are in the store and converges with Irisys’ checkout sensors as they move through front end. Without gathering personal information, the system provides retailers with detailed, anonymous shopper traffic patterns that help improve departmental conversion, staff allocation and real-time testing/placement of marketing resources.

“We’re seeing a big demand in global retailers looking for this data to drive merchandising and process improvements, increasing performance at departmental levels. With a total picture of customer behavior and repeat visits, retailers can maximize the effectiveness of the entire store – from conversion rates and staffing to marketing and customer interaction,” says Jon Rosen, executive vice president, corporate development for Wireless WERX.

Mobile integration creates an opportunity for real-time customer engagement. Loyalty apps connected to WirelessWERX’s system enable shoppers to access custom content – such as timely sales, interactive maps and store information – that can substantially enhance shopping experiences.
